Start with component matching, not an appearance sample
A cap should be selected against the exact bottle, pump and collar rather than a product photo or nominal neck name. Ask for the bottle and pump drawings, cap cavity dimensions, engagement features, assembly height and intended orientation. This turns the visible cap into a controlled part of the packaging stack instead of an isolated styling decision.
Specify cap materials and construction separately
Cap materials such as ABS, PP, aluminium, wood, ceramic and weighted assemblies can produce a similar silhouette while changing weight, tolerance, cost and surface-treatment options. State the visible substrate, internal construction, colour standard, texture, parting-line limit and acceptable mass range so quotes can be compared without hidden substitutions.
Set the fit checks before sampling
Document cap engagement depth, pull-off-force target, rotational play, collar clearance, actuator access and permitted height variation. A heavy cap can change drop behaviour, and a front-facing shape or grain needs an orientation requirement. These checks should be recorded with the current component IDs and drawing revisions.
Test the finished set and record the quality plan
Use the intended bottle, pump, collar, finished cap and fragrance to review assembly, spray access, retention, leakage and transport behaviour. Repeat the review after the selected surface treatment is applied, because small clearance changes can affect the finished pack. Link the test outcome to the quote, golden sample and quality plan before releasing a bulk order.
